Tahoe City - California

Por suerte le asignaron un trabajo a Denis en California, y nada menos que en el lago Tahoe! Belleza de lugar!

Mucho trabajo porque están poniendo todo un sistema de riego nuevo; tienen que mantener accesibilidad al agua lo màs posible, así que medio complicado pero interesante; van bien!!

Estamos disfrutando muchísimo de todo! Alquilamos lo que llaman una cabaña, divina! Justo cómoda, entre pinos y casas de vacaciones, en una calle sin salida!, mucho sol en la calle que da suficiente en el balcón de adelante y entre los àrboles!

Puedo (podemos!) usar el balcòn de adelante porque NO hace calor!!, esta mirando màs al este y casi siempre corre una bricita! Espectacular para almorzar o cenar afuera!, sentarse a la tarde a ver los autos pasar! Super!!

Hay un arroyito del otro lado del camino con un ruidito lindo pero no pesado!! Màs completo no podemos pedir!

Por supuesto!, mucho sendero para andar en bici!! Paraíso total!!

This year we have been very luck that Denis was assigned to a job in California, in Tahoe City! On the west side of Lake Tahoe, gorgeous place!

They are changing the irrigation system, a bit complicated as they need to keep the old one running to be able to still watering the course but they are doing well!

We are enjoying been in California, for once! We rented a “cabin”, smallish but very comfortable!, tho, it has 3 bedrooms!

Is located on a “No through road”!, from east to west so we have plenty of sun!, well, the road has it!, the cabin is built among the forest, like most houses-cabins are, but we get quite a lot of sun on the front desk and some on the back yard, no that we use this one much. It is very pretty here!

We can make use of the front deck a lot because it is not hot!! (Like in Hawaii…) gorgeous weather! We have lunch, dinner or just seat there to enjoy the space!

There is a creek on the other side of the road, and lots of bicycle trails around! Perfect location!

Mucho frio tambien!, cuando llegamos, todavía había baches de nieve hasta acà abajo, al lado de nuestra casita!! Suerte traje ropa de invierno!; nos nevó un por de veces! Pueden creer?!, el 21!, primer dìa de verano!, nos nevó todo!! Una belleza! Nos fuimos hasta arriba que había màs nieve para apreciar mejor este blancor!!

It has been a bit cold, specially for us used to the Hawaiian heat… glad I brought winter close too! When we arrived there were still snow everywhere, even down here close to the cabin!

It snowed 2 days after getting here! And!, on the first day of summer!! Ha! Ha! Ha! Incredible!

At the end of the street there is a chairlift complex that connects to sky areas, on the days of the snow we went up there to make the most of the pretty view and to enjoy the snow!!

Al estar cerca de la familia!, a cada rato aparece alguien por unos dias!

Prima Meiller, Florencia y su familia: Steve, Sebastian y Lucas fueron los primeros en venir!, ahi no màs!, llegamos un sábado, al sábado siguiente estaban acà!! Lo pasamos bárbaro! Pura charla, asadito y un par de caminatas hicieron que el finde pasara volando…

Estuvieron Roy y Deb un par de noches! George y Norma con coincidencia que pasaba Rodrigo (primo Meiller!) por la 80 y se le sugirió que parara unos días en casa para ver el trabajo en esta cancha! asì que!, casa completa!

Bajo cielos alucinantemente azules disfrutamos todas las visitas!! George y Norma vinieron manejando porque estamos a solo 3 hs de su casa; fuimos a un museo, a pasear por el centro, a verlo a Denis en la cancha y a tomar el tè contra el lago, picnic! En el centro miramos una escultura de una osa con dos ositos hecha, revestida con monedas de 1 centavo, color cobre marron, puestas de canto!, simulando el pelo del oso! Increíble de arte!!

Ellos están muy bien pero el turismo se hace a un nivel de 1/2 horas!! Ja! Ja! El resto en casa, buenas siestas y compañía!!

A Rodrigo ya lo “conocemos” de mis cuentos en Hawaii!

También estuvieron Joy y Danny por trabajo quedándose una noche!, lindo para ponerse al tanto de de todo un poco!

We have been getting quite a few family visitors!, as we are only 3 hours away from Bay Area.

Florencia, a cousin on the Meiller side, with her family (Steve, Sebastian y Lucas) came on the first weekend here! We had a great time; lots of chatting, some walking and lovely BBQ on the sunny deck! We visited them a couple of times when we did some work in Los Angeles area.

Then, Roy and Deb came another weekend; George and Norma (on their 90th!…) a few weeks later, as well, coincidently with Rodrigo, whom was coming back from Canada so he stopped by to check/learn from what Denis and crew are doing.

You have heard of Rodrigo, cousin from Meiller side, on my Hawaiian’s blogs!

On this visit, our outings were very short and like: visiting a museum, Denis at work, or going for stroll in town to see a huge mother bear and her cubs (art) made with pennies coins. Beautifully done!

Saturday afternoon we went for ”tea”!, by the lake!! We took an afternoon tea picnic!, it was really nice!

The bosses came too!, staying over night to see how the job is going.

Ha sido muy interesante y divertido el “despertar” (como digo yo!) de la zona! El cambio en la naturaleza de primavera a verano!; en el pueblo y barrio: de haber poca gente, la mayoría de las casas vacías y cerradas a estar todo lleno! Lleno de gente, lleno de autos, lleno de lanchas!! De la vida durmiente a la vida ruidosa!!

Cuando recién llegamos se veía muchísima actividad de jardineros acomodando jardines y terrenos; los cortadores de àrboles cortando acá y allá; constructores de todo tipo arreglando casas, cambiando asfalto de las entradas a las propiedades; la municipalidad acomodando cunetas, arreglando caminos rotos y pintando la raya amarilla o blanca de los caminos después de la temporada de invierno que, con las barredoras de nieve, rompen o gastan mucho!

Vimos nuestro primer oso, enorme, desde la ventana del living!, pasò muy panchamente caminando del otro lado de la casa verde, vecina! Otro, màs chico, cruzando el camino allà lejito; y creemos, el mismo, cruzar por el aparcadero de la casa verde!

A la vecina del lado izquierdo, casita beige, una noche de junio, le entrò un osito a la casa…; rompió un vidrio, inclusive con el eléctrico andando…!, se metió igual. No rompió mucho adentro pero, accidentalmente, abrió la canilla de la cocina, manija para arriba… y se inundó todo abajo… tuvo que cambiar la alfombra vieja…

La mayoría de las casas han instalado alambre eléctrico en las ventanas al alcance de los osos, y en las puertas para protegerlas de los mismos. Nosotros lo conectamos cada vez que salimos y a la noche!, màs que nada para dormir tranquilos!

Yo vi uno cruzando la calle que yo venia en bici, ni a 50 metros míos…. Ja! Ja! Ahi no màs pegue la vueltita y seguí viaje por otra calle!!

Tenemos montón de ardillas, diferentes tamaños y colores, divinas!, muy líjeras para sacarles fotos! A no ser èsta!, que panchamente vino a saludarme una tarde sentada en el balcón!!, hasta se vino al lado de la silla y parecía que, en cualquier momento, saltaba a mi falda!!

Hemos vistos coyotes cruzar por nuestro parque y un siervo pichón!!

It has been quite interesting to see how this area comes alive after winter!, the “awakening” of the place, as I call it!!

The change in nature is incredible!!: from bare brown grounds under the pine forest to a lash, beautiful green bush, and colorful flower: yellows, different tones of orange, all kind of purples, whites and the lot! Super beautiful!

Then, from a quite little town to a very, very busy one, where traffic from 10am to 4pm toward town nearly imposible to navigate, unless you get in the “vacation, holiday mood: slowly cruising along! It can take an hour to do 2 miles…

In our neighborhood: from looked houses to slowly been fill up with owner or visitors!; gardeners and contractor of all kind were very busy getting the properties ready for the summer! Very interesting!

The county is very busy as well, specially in May, fixing roads, painting the marking line back as they were out during winter; repairing or doing maintenance during the summer months!

We saw our first bear!, huge!!, from our living window; slowly walking up hill, on the other side of the green house, next door! Then, we saw, twice, a smaller bear, crossing our road a bit farther up and, then, crossing through the next door parking lot…

I saw one crossing the road ahead of me while riding my bike through another neighborhood!, to close to comfort!…, I turned around and rode on another street!! Ha! Ha!

We have lots of beautiful squirrels, of all sizes and grey colors!, they move to fast to take a picture tho, this little one!, no shy at all, came so close to me that I thought, she was going to jump onto my lap!

More wild animals go by our place!: coyotes, deer!

Los bosques una belleza para andar en bici!, pero… por un lado casi todos los senderos van para arriba!…, màs el susto de pensar que puede aparecer un oso, un leopardo o algún otro animal salvaje me cuesta encarar para ese lado! Ja! Ja! Ja! Ahora, después de 2 meses!, ya me voy haciendo màas amiga del bosque!!

Por suerte hay un sendero de asfalto, no que me guste tanto esta superficie, a lo largo del lago, que va de norte a sur, casi uniendo todos los pueblos. Hay secciones que faltan construir pero justo acà, cerca de casa tengo para hacer màs de 30 km hacia el sur y, creo, para el norte es bastante màs. Asì, veo otros pueblitos y areas de la costa oeste del lago! Timberland, Tahoe Pines, Homewood, Tahoma, Sugar Pines Point, Barkers Pass hacia el sur; Tahoe City, Dollar Point hacia el norte!

Ahora ya ando en el parque del otro lado del arroyo haciendo un circuito donde termino cruzando el arroyo mojàndome las patitas, no se puede cruzar andando porque hay mucha roca grandesita y desnivelada. Es super linda la vuelta!

Hay mucho ciclista pero nunca me cruzo con nadie en el bosque… de ahi que me da màs cosa andar sola. Pero bue, tampoco me voy a quedar sentada en casa por miedito!! Ja! Ja!

Con Denis hacemos recorridos en los fines de semana!, re lindo que èl también, pueda disfrutar!

There are really nice bike/walking trails very close by us, where we can ride for hours without having to drive!, but…!, the dirt, mountain trails go up hill…!! Ha! Ha!, some quite steep! So, slowly, we are getting farther away, quite tiring but worth it!!

Then, there is the bike path, asphalt, that runs along the lake, for miles, ether north or sought; it is quite easy as it is asphalt and pretty much flat! I’ve been both way, many times, acclimatizing as Tahoe is above 6,100 feet of sea level.

On this path I go to visit many places along this coast: Timberland, Tahoe Pines, Homewood, Tahoma, Sugar Pines Point to the south; Tahoe City, Dollar Point to the north!

Slowly I have adventured out in the forest!, starting in the lovely park on the other side of the creek!, trying to build up courage to go farther away but knowing that the are bear and wild life around… it gets hard… It is so funny, as I move farther away from the street my heart pumps very quickly and I need to concentrate to relax and enjoy biking and forget about bears!! Ha! Ha! Luckily, there is always someone around tho, I wish there were more!!

On weekend is easier because I go out with Denis!

Un dia, bah, ya van como 3 veces que he ido… me fui a re visitar un lugar muy famoso y especial para mi! Squaw Valley! Un calorcito en el corazòn al ir acercándome a la zona de la aero silla principal! Cuantos recuerdos!!

Famoso para el mundo porque acà se hicieron las olimpiadas de 1960!

Famoso en mi vida porque acà me rompí los 4 ligamentos de la pata izquierda tratando de esquiar!, muchísimos años atràs!

Siguiendo el rio Truckee por un trecho se entra a un valle como con una media luna de montañas alrededor! con varios tipos y muchas aero sillas y gondola que llevan a las pistas de allà arriba! Todavìa se ven copas con algo de nieve! Es alto acà!!

A couple of times I have ridden to Squaw Valley!, a very famous place! For the world because there were ran the 1960 winter Olympics!; and, for me!, because many moons ago I came here with my sister in law Sylvia to sky, my first time ever! We have great memories until, on the third day, I broke the ligaments on my left knee… Never mind, the warm feeling, the memories as I’m pedaling towards the sky center it filled my heart!

Following the Truckee River for a while, I reach the very pretty valley surrounded by tall picks in like a horse shoe shape! Many chairlift and the tram running on all direction to the top of the mountains! There is snow on some of the picks giving a lovely touch to this gorgoues view!

Nos trajimos el jeep para disfrutarlo un poco!! Pero con tanta otra actividad casi no se nos ha dado para recorrer las zonas de 4x4. Un día fuimos a explorar unos caminos cerca del Rubicon Trail que es famoso para los afinados al 4x4. Elegimos caminos fáciles ya que andamos solos; y nos encontramos con uno sin salida que terminaba en la punta de un cerro rocoso!; unas vistas alrededor alucinantes!! Unos cielos màs azules imposible! Flores silvestres por dònde mires! Un placer de paseo!!

We brought the jeep to be able to explore the many 4 wheel drive trails of the area but with so much else going on we only have been out once, so far.

We went to the north entrance of the Rubicon trail, very famous for enthusiasts 4wdivers!, is not the best of the track but we were going towards Ellis Peak. Gorgeous scenery!, so beautiful! Lots of wild flowers.

We went up on a no through track that took us to a rocky peak with amazing panoramic views!, you could see all around you! We had a great outing!!
