Empezando a explorar este lado de la costa para buscar recorridos diarios para el resto de la temporada!!
Un paseo por el parque nacional Kaloko-Honokohau. Querìa entrar por la entrada dònde està la oficina turìstica pero la tranquera cerrada todavía, abren a las 8.30… seguí hacia el norte pensando entrar por al lado de la cancha de golf pero enseguida vi un caminito derecho a la costa con la tranquera abierta! Ahi me larguè!!
Por fin camino para bicicleta de montaña!! Rocas, pozos, tierra!!
Desemboco en unos diques artificiales, replìca de lo que usaban los nativos años atrás, para agarrar peces.
Aquì hay una playa con bastante roca, quizás algún rinconcito para mojarse hasta las rodillas… hoy estoy explorando dos temas: senderos para pedalear y en busca de alguna playa para nadar… Esta segunda muy difícil de encontrar porque es pura lava hasta las profundidades del mar…
Emprendo la vuelta por el sendero de lava contra el mar, una belleza! Algo complicado de navegar y pedalear pero lo voy logrando!! Unos metros quizás camino, màs adelante camino un poco màs,… nada de playa… nada como para meterse y nadar… las olas rompen derecho contra la roca-lava… No sirve…
El paisaje una belleza total! Hacia un lado mar y cielo!!, azules de todo tipo! Hacia el otro lado el impresionante volcán Hualalai!, hermoso total con su majestuosa silueta!; los campos de lava ya con bastante vegetación, el pueblo Kalaoa (ahi vivimos en el 2017!) Desparramado por la ladera verde!, muy sol en contra pero logro algo de foto!!
Llego a una playa en forma de casi media luna! Hermosa! Mis esperanzas de encontrar algo para nadar crecen… y mi pedaleo termina! Ja! ja! Ja!… a caminar todo lo largo de la playa, empujando la bici… uf! Què pesado! Difícil pero no imposible!!
Apenas si veo un agujerito que otro como para decir que uno podría poder probar de meterse… solo hasta las rodillas… mucha roca… Puro mar y playa al re pedo si uno ni puede meterse… Pero asì es Hawaii… apenas algunas playas que se llenan de turistas…
Termino en la punta sur de la playa que es otra entrada al parque, aquì hay una replica de algo tipo quincho que usaban los nativos para protección del clima o quizás hasta de viviendas.
También han construido paredes hacia el mar para atrapar pescados, parte de esta es de la original de los nativos.
No hay nadie nadando, oh siii!!, las tortugas verdes de Hawaii!, divinas!!; pero acà si se podría nadar o al menos venir y pasar un par de horas a la sombra, hay varias palmeras! Creo es un lugar re lindo para traer los nietos si nos vienen a visitar!!
Salgo del parque por esta entrada con estacionamiento bien cerca, al lado de la marina!! Contenta de saber que, de venir en auto, es poca la caminata hasta la playa!!
Ya tomo la ruta y me vuelvo a casa por la ruta de màs arriba!, con mucha banquina, bien asfaltada que me proteja de que no me pasen por arriba tan fácil!

Looking for longer and off the bitumen path (asphalt) bike rides!, I decided to check out this national park.
I ride from home toward town to get on the Hwy as there is no other short way to get to it.
I was planning to go into the park on a main tourist entrance as I wanted to check it office but the gate was still close…, they open at 8.30 am. Pedaled on and a few miles/kilometer ahead I see a road with it gate open!, going straight to the coastline! Didn’t know it was there… I had to do U-turn at the next traffic light as I’m on the wrong side of the road and there is no access to it from this side.
Happy to be off the bitumen road!, start going down hill on a nice, gentle incline; it is so nice to use the bike for what is mode for!!!: dirt, rocky road!!
At the ocean to my right there is a huge fishpond!, the wall has been reconstructed at the original place. These ponds, at various points along the coastline, were used by native Hawaiians to keep their caught fish. They used fish traps to catch them and then, they will keep them in this bigger ponds. (as I had read…)
The beach here is very rocky and little sand to nothing so this will no be a spot to come to swim… I’m also checking on beaches to see if there are any good for swimming.
I followed the track to the left in direction back to Kona, all along the coast. Very rocky, rock of all sizes and black colors with some whites too. Looking in land the impressive Hualalai Volcano!, to the other side the great ocean with it all kind of blues!, so pretty.
The waves crash onto the rocky grounds, all lava so no place to swim along here ether… I reach a nice, open horse shoe beach and my hopes to find a place to get in increases!, only to loose it again as I can see rocks under the water, flat lava fields underneath that will make swimming impossible…
I had to walk the whole length of the beach as my tires are not for sand, lucky my bike is light as a feather!!! I make a few stops to appreciate the surrounds and to catch up with my breath!! ha! Ha!
Finally I get to the south end of the park, another entrance over here! A few people, doubt it will be more than 10… along the trip I had only pass 4 people! They getting ready to spend a few hours at the beach, chairs, umbrellas, coolers! Others just came for a few minutes!, taking a couple of pictures and you can see in their face they are ready to move on to next touristy stop!…
This is an old fishpond as well, the walls are in disappear but can still be seen! Very gorgeous place! Here I think is a nice spot to swim!, and, hopefully, to bring the grand kids in their visit to Hawaii!
There is a flat beach, some rocks here and there, turtles!!!, and I can imagine fish will be around too! Lots of nice tall palm trees and a replica of a Hawaiian hut for a bit of a shade in the afternoon!, oh, restrooms too!
All of this at nice short walk to the parking lot! So definitely will be coming here for a swim!
I take the trail to the parking lot placed right at the marina, gorgeous Hualalai volcano is right there in your face!!, though the head on sun doesn’t help for a nice picture…
